Let Us Pray… by Lea Salonga

You know what, I’m tired of hearing that phrase whenever a tragedy strikes our country. I’m also tired of seeing it on my newsfeed whenever I open Twitter.

The phrase seems to give us permission to pass the buck on to God, the Almighty and Powerful, Omnipotent God, to take the responsibility away from us and fix everything while we sit back and watch.

Well, to all of you still on your knees in deep contemplation, I have news for you: GOD ISN’T GOING TO COME DOWN AND FIX THINGS FOR YOU.

My mother always had this mantra: God helps those who help themselves. She used it whenever she wanted me to get off my ass and do something. Yeah, you have to admire a woman who continues to survive in this world by virtue of her smarts and disdain for sloth. She’s always up and about, active and quick. Although she does say that the end of her life will be coming sooner rather than later (she’s in her 70s, but man, she doesn’t look it), the way she acts is much more proactive and less fatalistic.

Less fatalistic. Shouldn’t that be the way we start to look at things? More “get up and go” and less “bahala na”?

After reading about the bombed bus on Buendia, the numerous carjackings (two of which lead to 3 charred bodies), and the numerous deaths at the Eton Tower construction site in Makati, I had reached my threshold. One twitter denizen replied to one of my latest tweets with something like, “let us pray… pray…” I couldn’t resist the urge, so I tweeted back with, “Forget prayers, I want action.”

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m as prayerful as anyone. I have received direct answers to my life questions by sitting in a church during a time of personal and professional crisis. My faith in God is strong, and has gotten me through some harrowing times. That said, I also know that God isn’t going to sing my songs for me, memorize lines and blocking on my behalf. Sure, I’ll acknowledge the gift and talents with which I was blessed, but still. I have to power the vessel that is my body in order to use the gifts wisely.

In short, I have to get off my ass and do stuff.

God’s gifts to each of us includes: a brain with which to independently think, criticize, plan (yeah, like make a blueprint), plan again (if plan A doesn’t work), and dream. We weren’t created to behave like lemmings, following the crowd jumping off a cliff. We weren’t created to passively sit and watch the world go by.

God helps those who help themselves. So get off your ass already.…t-us-pray.html

January 27, 2011

WaW! This is one of my favorite cartoons back in the days. I even had a Lion-O action figure who’s eye’s lights up. Deym! Those were the days. I’d spend hours just playing. I hope this remake will also be as awesome as the original.

The new “ThunderCats” is expected to debut later this year.

26-JAN: Crisis breeds Opportunity

January 26, 2011

Yesterday (25-JAN), a bus was bombed in EDSA. Five passengers were killed and 13 others were injured when the bus exploded on the northbound lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), corner Buendia avenue, on Tuesday afternoon. I was kinda excited (bad..) on how this will affect the local stock market. Because in my 2 months in trading in the market, I haven’t experienced a national disaster yet(?). Good thing the bus explosion didn’t matter much as Ive noticed. PSEi closes @ 3931 dn 28pts.

News about Meralco, i do not know how this will affect the price of MER. Lopezes may sell remaining stake in Meralco LINK

I have a microscopic share in MER. Kinda funny how it is behaving, being tag as a blue chip stock. Adrenaline Rush! haha!

To Willie Revillame, please resign and never come back….

May 5, 2010

Newsflash y’all! Hottest showbiz news at the moment, Willie Revillame versus Jobert Sucaldito. Round one, fight!! Internet forums are going nuts about this issue. The full story can be read here and the video is here.

I would just like to say that, in my humble opinion Mr. Willie Revillame is the biggest tool in dumbing down Filipinos. I personally cant stand a second of watching Wowowee. He makes the most stupid jokes, immature comment and the dumbest remarks. I guess that is the reason that in the recent SWS survey. Majority of Filipinos will not vote on a politician that he endorses. After thoroughly reading comments from Yahoo Philippines. I can’t seem to find anyone defending Mr. Revillame, poor sir.
To Willie Revillame, please resign and never come back…. The Filipino people will be a LOT better without you sir.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, the best of the best

May 5, 2010

Let’s talk about Pacquiao real quick. I have posted here in my blog NOT to vote for Pac. And I still encourage people not to. Our generation is so blessed to witness his tramendous ring prowess. It is really a one in every generation. So maybe we will see  the next Manny Pacquiao 50 years from now. So seeing him in congress would be a waste. We want to see him in the ring. In the ring beating the living hell out of another individual. Now, I have stumbled upon this site (it’s actually a BIG site, hehe) saying that THIS fight MUST happen. And it must happen real soon.

I am predictingm this fight will happen in the last quarter of this year. Lets see then. For the complete article, please visit the site and share your thoughts.

A look at Pacquiao’s polotical posters in Saranggani is in here:

The Real Gap Between The Rich and The Poor Is Not The Money

May 4, 2010

Ok, so I just got a ‘GO’ signal from my friend (naks! feeling) Fitz Villafuerte to re-post this awesome article about the difference in  mindset of Rich people versus middle class and poor people. Fitz’s blog is one of the few blogs that I religiously follow. His post’s makes perfect sense and I would suggest that you also follow him. And me =)

This is my first time to just copy and paste an article from a different site, so I do hope that I do not brake any blog rules mumbo jumbo. So, read on and digest…….. Again, this article is on

Thanks Fitz!!!!1

Society is basically made up of the rich, the middle class and the poor.

And between these groups, the most obvious difference is the amount of money they have.

Personally, I believe that the real gap between the rich and the poor is really NOT their monthly income.

To think that the only difference between the haves and have-nots is the size of their bank account is very short-sighted.

Because in reality, the amount of money one has is actually just a consequence of one’s mindset and actions – and that is where the real gap lies.

But aside from the rich and the poor, there is also the middle class. How different are they from the two? Moreover, why do some people manage to get out of being poor but get stuck in being middle class? Why can’t they progress and become rich?

Below is a list of comparison that will answer these questions.

Goals and Lifestyle

  • Poor: Survival; thinks from day to day – a hand-to-mouth existence
  • Middle Class: Comfort; thinks from paycheck to paycheck
  • Rich: Freedom; thinks from year to year and far beyond

Spending and Debt

  • Poor: Pays in cash or debts
  • Middle Class: Pays through credit cards and revolves debt
  • Rich: Pays through credit cards but pays in full monthly, knows how to leverage debt

Thoughts and Conversations

  • Poor: Talks about people
  • Middle Class: Talks about material things
  • Rich: Talks about ideas

Work Attitude and Mindset

  • Poor and Middle Class: Plays it safe, works just enough, satisfied with mediocre results
  • Rich: Takes calculated risks, challenges oneself to excel and be the best

Money and Opportunities

  • Poor and Middle Class: Scarcity; opportunities are few and money is hard to come by
  • Rich: Abundance; there are a lot of opportunities out there for me to make money

Attitudes and Motivation

  • Poor and Middle Class: Impatient; I want to live in comfort today
  • Rich: Delays gratification; I sacrifice today, so I can live in comfort for many days in the future

Luxuries and Obstacles

  • Poor and Middle Class: I cannot afford it. I cannot do it.
  • Rich: How can I afford it? How can I learn to do it?

Success and Wealth

  • Poor: Lottery, marry someone rich
  • Middle Class: Inheritance, advancement of career
  • Rich: Frugality, business and investments

Recreation and Fulfillment

  • Poor and Middle Class: Distractions and escapes (television, gossip, etc.), surrounds oneself with material things
  • Rich: Life enrichment, self-growth, helps and provides value to others

Ask yourself, where does your mindset stand today? It’s never too late to change.

Yellow brick road..

April 30, 2010

I live in district 4 of Quezon City. Towards the end of last year, if I am not mistaken, around December 2009, Maynilad(?) started “fixing” or improving (emphasis on fixing) our roads. Unfortunately, a little over a week before the election, they are still “fixing” our roads. For a couple of days now, we are experiencing some drizzly weather and I am afraid that come the rainy season, these “fixing” and improving will be far from over. To think that our whole community will have to endure all the muddy inconvenience these dumb nuts in the QC government did just to corrupt and pay for their 2010 election bid. Corrupt some more – they will in the future. Geeez!

Please do see images that I have attached on this post. Can you imagine all the mud and dust we are bathing ourselves with on a daily basis? I do hope that this blog post reaches QC government officials so that they can get their act together and expedite in actually “fixing” our roads. Be a friend, spread the word.
